The Calgary Flames announced today that Mike Keenan was relieved of his coaching duties with the team.  Keenan just completed the second year of a three-year contract with the Flames.  Calgary general manager Darryl Sutter said he decided to make a change after the team did not meet expectations this season.

Keenan posted a regular season record of 80-60-16 making two playoff appearances during his two seasons in Calgary.  The Flames did not advance past the first round under Keenan, however.

Keenan has coached a total of eight NHL teams during his career.
