Maple Leafs Add Phaneuf, Giguere
The Toronto Maple Leafs rocked the hockey world on Sunday making two blockbuster trades to acquire Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf and Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere. The Maple Leafs lost their sixth straight game on Saturday night and are tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for the worst record in the NHL. Toronto does not have its first round pick in 2010, however, because of an off-season trade with the Boston Bruins.
Toronto acquired Phaneuf, forward Fedrik Sjostrom, and defenseman Keith Aulie from Calgary in exchange for defenseman Ian White, forward Niklas Hagman, forward Jamal Mayers, and forward Matt Stajan.
The Leafs acquired Giguere from the Ducks in exchange for goaltender Vesa Toskala and forward Jason Blake.
