Tampa Bay Lightning Sold To Boston Native
According to Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, the Tampa Bay Lightning have been sold to Boston hedge fund manager Jeffrey Vinik and an official announcement is expected in the next few days. Vinik is a part-owner/limited partner with the Boston Red Sox. It is believed the final sale price will be in the neighborhood of $175 million.
Current owners Len Barrie and Oren Koules purchased the Lightning in 2008 for $200 million. Vinik is now looking to hire a president who can serve as the face of the franchise.
General manager Brian Lawton is expected to retain his position as the team’s general manager.
